Hello, my childhood friend!
Since you recited me a poem (no doubt one I so did not wish to hear, come on who recites horror poems!!) I shall return the favour ;D Double Double return the favour.
A friend is someone we turn to
when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure
for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives
with beauty, joy, and grace.
And makes the whole world we live in
a better and happier place.

I'd like to be the sort of friend that
you have been to me;
I'd like to be the help that
you've been always glad to be;
I'd like to mean as much to you
each minute of the day
As you have meant, old friend of mine,
to me along the way.

God must have known there would be times
We'd need a word of cheer,
Someone to praise a triumph
Or brush away a tear.
He must have known we'd need to share
The joy of "little things"
In order to appreciate
The happiness life brings.
I think He knew our troubled hearts
Would sometimes throb with pain,
At trials and misfortunes,
Or goals we can't attain.
He knew we'd need the comfort
Of an understanding heart
To give us strength and courage
To make a fresh, new start.
He knew we'd need companionship,
Unselfish, lasting, and true,
And so God blessed me with the heart's great need,
With cherished friends like you.

There are so many many more poems I could copy and paste and mean, but then again there are too many more to copy and paste and mean ;DYou know sometimes best friends only last a while (not true, Jess, doesn't apply to you!) but no matter how many of them I changed, Daniel, you stayed. Don't know what it was, but seven years we've stayed - seventy we part. It's a curse. Too bad you're stuck in it.
I hope I'll watch you on your first date, your graduation, your wedding, your baby shower. I know it seems too far, but hey, I think I'll even watch your hair turn grey or when you have alzheimers and see gnomes everywhere - then you'll know I was right (about the gnomes I mean ;D).
I hope you never lose sight of yourself, your strengths, your goals. I hope you never change and stay forever you, know yourself, that you are you and nobody else. I hope you never say no to Can You Do More? because you can, you always can.
I wish for you so many things, but most of all I wish for this friendship to never end. If I could present you with a self painted rainbow I would, to tell you how beautiful this world is. If I could I would teach you all about life and love and growing up, but that's for you to learn. Now all I can do for you is to tell you that you have a friend who will forever be one, to listen, to heal, to grow and learn with. I can't promise much because I never break my promises, but I'll stick on you like a leech until the day the gnomes steal your last breath away. This I promise you. And I never break my promises.
Some people wish and wish til their lawn grows bare to have a childhood friend, but I don't have to. Cause I've got one with a long name that's always been there all along, making himself to be so little when his heart shines like a star in the night.
Watch out, that little speck of stardust isn't just for show - wait for the day when it finally glows, shines. And then, we can watch it all over again.
